Welcome to Jobaroo, a platform operated by Jobaroo (Pty) Ltd (“Jobaroo”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). We are committed to protecting the privacy and security of your Personal Information.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, process, share, and protect your Personal Information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the “Platform”). It is designed to be compliant with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Act 4 of 2013.

2. What Personal Information We Collect
We collect information in several ways to provide and improve our service to you.
2.1. Information You Provide Directly:
- Account Information: When you register, we collect information such as your name, email address, and password. If you register using a social media account, we collect information from that account, such as your public profile name and email address.
- Profile Information: As a Service Provider, you may provide your skills, a professional bio, portfolio links, and a profile picture. As a Client, you may provide your name and job requirements.
- Verification Information: If you opt for our “Verified Provider” status, we will collect, through our trusted third-party partner, information necessary for verification, which may include a copy of your ID document, proof of address, or qualification certificates. This information is used solely for the purpose of verification.
- Payment & Transaction Information: When you pay a Connection Fee (as a Client) or a Verification Fee (as a Provider), our third-party payment gateway will process your payment. We do not store your full credit card or banking details, but we do keep a record of the transaction.
- Communications: We collect information when you communicate with us, such as for customer support, or when you communicate with other users through the Platform’s messaging service.
2.2. Information We Collect Automatically:
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you interact with our Platform, such as the pages you view, the features you use, searches you conduct, and the dates and times of your visits.
- Device and Connection Information: We collect information about the device you use to access our Platform, including your IP address, device type, operating system, and browser type.
3. How We Use Your Information
We process your Personal Information for the following purposes:
- To Provide and Operate the Platform: To create and manage your account, facilitate the matching of Clients and Service Providers, and enable communication between users.
- To Process Payments: To process the Connection Fee and recurring Verification Fee securely.
- To Ensure Trust and Safety: To verify the identity of “Verified Providers,” to monitor for fraud, and to enforce our Terms and Conditions.
- To Communicate With You: To send you important service-related announcements, updates, and security alerts. We may also send you marketing communications, which you can opt out of at any time.
- To Improve Our Service: To analyze usage data to understand trends, improve the user experience, and develop new features.
- To Comply with Legal Obligations: To cooperate with law enforcement and adhere to our legal and regulatory responsibilities.
4. How and Why We Share Your Information
Your privacy is important, and we limit who we share your data with.
- With Other Users: Your profile information (name, skills, bio) is visible to other users. Your direct contact details are only shared with a specific Client after they have paid the R69 Connection Fee.
- With Third-Party Service Providers: We share information with trusted third parties who perform services on our behalf, such as:
- Payment Processors (e.g., Paystack, Yoco) to handle payments.
- Identity Verification Partners to manage the “Verified Provider” process.
- Cloud Hosting Providers (e.g., Amazon Web Services) to store our data.
- Analytics Providers to help us understand platform usage.We have agreements in place to ensure these parties only use your information for the purposes we’ve instructed and that they maintain its security.
- For Legal Reasons: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, in response to a court order or subpoena, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
- In Case of a Business Transfer: If Jobaroo is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your Personal Information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
5. Data Security
We have implemented appropriate technical and organisational security measures designed to protect your Personal Information from accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure, or access. These measures include data encryption, access controls, and regular security assessments. However, please be aware that no electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
6. Data Retention
We will retain your Personal Information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, or as long as your account is active. We will retain and use your information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, for tax and accounting purposes), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
7. Your Rights Under POPIA
As a data subject in South Africa, you have the following rights:
- Right of Access: You have the right to request a copy of the Personal Information we hold about you.1
- Right to Rectification: You have the right to request the correction of inaccurate or incomplete Personal Information.2
- Right to Erasure: You have the right to request the deletion of your Personal Information3, subject to certain legal limitations.
- Right to Object: You have the right to object to the processing of your Personal Information, particularly for direct marketing.
- Right to Restrict Processing: You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your Personal Information under certain conditions.

8. International Data Transfers
Some of our third-party service providers (e.g., cloud hosting) may be located outside of South Africa. Where we transfer your Personal Information internationally, we will ensure that it is protected by implementing appropriate safeguards, such as transferring to countries with adequate data protection laws or using standard contractual clauses approved for this purpose.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Platform is not intended for or directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the “Effective Date” at the top. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
